Additive Manufacturing in the Military Technology Sector

New PRIF Report by Liska Suckau

For some time now, the potential of additive manufacturing—colloquially known as 3D printing—has been discussed with regard to the military, from its integration into the military sector to its use in weapons production by non-state actors.

In the new PRIF Report, Liska Suckau provides a unique overview of the socio-technical environment of additive manufacturing in the military sector. She discusses the relevant actors and uses real-life examples to illustrate the factors that influence and limit the use of 3D printing in the military sector.

Liska Suckau is a research associate in the International Security program area at PRIF and in the Cluster for Natural and Technical Sciences in Arms Control Research (CNTR). Her research interests lie in the areas of war and peace studies, in particular new technologies in warfare, military innovation, critical military studies, arms control, and gender.
