The global trend towards armament continues. Disarmament and arms control are in a bad way, and new military technologies bring additional challenges. The risk of nuclear escalation remains and is increasing. But despite this gloomy situation, there are options for action: These are to make the strengthening of military capabilities socially and ecologically sustainable and to further develop arms control and conventional defense. On the other hand, stronger nuclear deterrence is not desirable.
