Damaged undersea cables in the Baltic Sea, drone sightings over airports, or cyberattacks on supply systems: critical infrastructures are increasingly coming into focus in geopolitical conflicts and hybrid threats. But how vulnerable are modern societies, and what makes them more resilient? Using examples from current research at the PEASEC chair at TU Darmstadt, this article looks at different forms of infrastructure vulnerability and discusses how solutions for resilience beyond military deterrence can be strengthened.
